We offer training sessions for any school or community group, with the aim of making travelling by train easier and encouraging independent travel.

Our Train2Travel package is designed for year 6 students but can be adapted, covering:

  • Where to find information in advance of your journey
  • How to buy tickets
  • What to do at a station
  • How to get around a station
  • What to take with you on a trip
  • How to behave on a train
  • What to do in an emergency
  • General rail safety
  • And much more……

The training can be tailored to any age of school pupil or any type of community group and is FREE!

Where possible we will follow such training up with a trip on a train to put everything learnt in the presentation into practice via our Try the Train Free Package. (See below)

TRY THE TRAIN FREE TRAIN TRAVEL FOR GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS

Are you a community group that might benefit from the freedom and convenience that train travel can bring?

Working with South Western Railway we are keen to make the railway accessible to all, especially helping individuals overcome barriers such as lack of confidence when travelling by train.

The Wey Valley Community Rail Partnership offer the opportunity to bring a group for a one off free promotional return trip on our local line. We can discuss where to go and who might like to travel.

This is always dependent on staff resources and availability of South Western Railway Station Ambassadors and requires a 6 – 8 week planning period, but may include:

  • A free local trip on South Western Railway to put everything learned in the Train2Travel package into practice
  • Station visits
  • Demonstrations of buying tickets and finding information
  • Talks by local train staff
  • Safety and travelling with confidence information (Link here to Travel Plan Training)???

We will plan the trip for you and come along on the day to help you use the trains safely and confidently.

We work with Community Ambassadors from South Western Railway one of whom will be accompanying us on the journey.

Our Try the Train for Free package can be provided separately to the Train2Travel initiative to any school or not for profit community group.
