Built on the line from Aldershot to Woking, Ash Vale station opened in May 1870 as ‘North Camp & Ash Vale’, becoming Ash Vale in March 1924.

The station is very close to the Basingstoke Canal and its Blackwater Valley Aqueduct passes over the A331. The Visitor Centre for the Basingstoke Canal is 1.5 miles away in Mytchett Place Road.
